Metrics & Results
-
Event goers enjoyed our zip-code-day celebration and end-of-summer concert so much that we were asked to make it into an annual event. I directed two Summer Celebrations, including our inaugural 9-21-22!
-
The entire community came out two years in a row to see our headlining band and local legends, Steal Dawn.
-
I designed t-shirts using the community zip code to fund raise for EdUCate, a local non-profit which supports schools in the area. We sold out in the first 2 hours of the event!
-
Six local restaurants participated in the day’s festivities by offering discounts ranging between 10% and 20% off!
-
Four delicious food trucks participated in our event, with two returning for the following year’s event!
-
We coordinated with Sweet Treats to give free servings of ice cream to all three local public elementary schools during pickup.
Process
Planning and Pre-Marketing
This event was born out of the idea to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the date September 21st, 2022 or 9-21-22 matching the Zip Code of our local community: 92122. Our goal was to touch people of all ages in the community by hosting several opportunities to participate throughout the day. We set up an ice cream giveaway for the elementary school students in the afternoon with a concert in the park to end the night. We also reached out to local restaurants to set up discounts for our “local holiday” in case any neighbors were not able to attend the concert.
Messaging
I created a series of messaging highlighting the variety of celebratory events our team would be hosting.
Branding and Logo Design
I used Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create a logo featuring the celebratory date and zip code: 9-21-22. This would be used on all future marketing and promotional pieces.
Permits
I worked with the SD Parks and Recreation Department to apply for and obtain the correct permits for our concert and ice cream giveaway.
Vendors and Talent
I reached out to all available local bands, food trucks, ice cream companies, and restaurants to negotiate their participation in our event.
Digital Marketing
After confirming our event space with the SD Parks Department and locking in our headlining talent, I was able to begin creating digital marketing pieces to invite the community to our event. Digital marketing efforts included monitoring the Eventbrite, designing branded social media posts, and sending email campaigns to our various spheres of influence.
I set up an Eventbrite page to make our event visible online for any local residents and have a better idea of numbers for attendance.
Eventbrite
In the 2 months prior to the event, I began creating reels and stories for our Instagram, Facebook, and NextDoor pages. We posted both organically and placed Meta Ads across Instagram and Facebook in the weeks prior to the event.
Our team hired Real Talk Media to film the interview-style ad videos about the upcoming event and cross-promote on their social platforms.

Social Media
I wrote and designed a series of emails inviting residents to our event which would be pushed out to our sphere of over 580 clients, colleagues, and community members. I also communicated with the local schools to send emails tailored to parents of students inviting them to our ice-cream-giveaway.
I made sure to diversify my marketing strategy by creating ads in print publications, mailing our own postcards, and designing as banners and flyers to put up in the community. I also designed t-shirts for our education fundraiser, and used this logo across our marketing.
I designed several flyers which our team hand-distributed to neighbors in the community and the school. I also included ad space on our monthly postcard mailer, delivered to 6000+ neighbors in the area.
Sales Booklet Ads
I created quarterly and yearly sales booklets for this area, and included ad space for our event for print pieces delivered in the months prior to the event. These mailers were delivered to 6000+ homes in our community.
In the months leading to the event, I placed ads in our community’s local newsletter, which was delivered to all homes in the area.
